Composition Roofs
Composition roofs, otherwise known as asphalt (composition) shingles, are what you will see on the majority of homes in the United States. Reason No. 1 for that is certainly cost. If you can’t afford the price of, say, slate or clay tile roofing, composition roofs are a great alternative because they come in a wide variety of colors and styles that can approximate more expensive roofing choices.
At Metal Master Roofing and Construction, we have installed and repaired thousands of composition roofs in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. We have been doing this for more than 28 years, and you won’t find many roofing companies in North Texas who have been satisfying customers with personal service and high-quality products as long as us.
Composition roofs have changed perhaps more than any other roofing option over the years. Some used to refer to this style as bland, perhaps. But these modern day composite shingles are now thicker, stronger (fiberglass shingles more so than organic) and, perhaps most important to some, more aesthetically pleasing.
They are now manufactured with a range of special additives to make them resistant to algae and moss growth and UV degradation. These shingles are made up of a mixture of several commonly used roofing materials – they take the “best” of them. Composition roofs can range from low-cost three-tab shingles to premium architectural styles such as slate, shake, laminate and wood. Unlike those previous materials, however, composition shingles are manufactured in just about any color, shape, or size by multiple manufacturers. Because of the vast options and supply of these shingles, the consumer sees the cost savings. We specialize in the installation of Owens Corning composition roofs; some of that company’s premium composite shingles are backed by lifetime warranties.
Composition roofs generally have a 30-50 year life expectancy, along with warranties to match that span. Composite shingles do not crack, split, blister, peel or warp. And wind damage or shingle displacement is much less of an issue on composition roofs with new technologies in place. Some have been proven to stand up to winds in excess of 120 mph, and a majority of our composition roofs have Class A fire protection ratings, which is the highest available. Many Shingle Manufacturers also offer shingels with Class 4 Impact Ratings that will withstand North Texas hail.
Composition roofs can be overlaid with a new roof if the initial roof is a single layer and in good condition. They require low maintenance, provide good ventilation and can withstand foot traffic if necessary without damaging the materials. And no matter what style of home your own or might be building, these types of shingles will complement the look with your variety of style options available. You get a clean, stylish look but at pennies on the dollar compared to slate or tile.
